Reactive monitoring
Questions concerning the condition of a specific World Heritage site can prompt what is called  reactive monitoring or reporting to the Committee. This can be initiated by the Secretariat of the World Heritage Committee, however other UNESCO organisations and the advisory bodies ICOMOS and IUCN can carry out reactive monitoring as well. Reactive monitoring is prompted, for instance, by natural threats, acts of war, neglect, decline, etc. These reports do not always result in action being taken. Restoration work may be underway, allowing the relevant site to remain on the World Heritage List. Alternatively, the site may be placed on the World Heritage in Danger List or be removed from the List.
