Authenticity (or: Authenticity and integrity)

Authenticity
Authenticity or originality relates to qualities of the cultural heritage, such as shape and design, materials, function and use, traditions and techniques, management aspects, surroundings, language, etc.

Integrity
Integrity, or being ‘undisturbed’ or intact, relates to determining whether the condition of the cultural or natural heritage justifies its inscription on the List and whether it contains any elements which express its unique significance. Furthermore, the size of the site must also be sufficient to represent that significance. Integrity also relates to determining what threats or developments the heritage may be exposed to.
