Blokker Mill
This mill, which is a smock mill (wipmolen), is also known as the Blokkerse Wip (Blokker Smock). This pyramidal-shaped smock mill has a rotating upper section and was built on a breastwork of brick. A windmill has stood at this spot since the late 1400s. The original mill was burned down by Spanish troops in 1575. The present mill dates from around 1620, but has undergone many restorations, the last one being after a fire in 1999. Its sweep is 26.9 metres and its external waterwheel measures 5.7 metres in diameter. The mill was built for the purpose of draining the Blokweer polder just south of the municipality of Alblasserdam.
