Route discription

Kinderdijk is in the Alblasserwaard, 10 kilometres (as the crow flies) from the centre of Rotterdam, from where it is easy to reach by car, coach, bicycle and boat.

By car: The Kinderdijk mill area is signposted after leaving motorway A15 at junction 22 (Alblasserdam, Kinderdijk). Follow the signs Kinderdijk and the signs depicting mills. Kinderdijk is approximately 5.5 kms from the motorway.

By bicycle: Kinderdijk can be reached via attractive routes. We recommend you take the ferry from Ridderkerk or Krimpen a/d Lek.

By boat: Various boats depart from Rotterdam and Dordrecht. A boat trip to Kinderdijk is a nice introduction to your visit. Water is an all-important element of Kinderdijk. Dykes, water courses and windmills have provided protection against water for centuries.
